"Salutes on the 22nd of February, &c. On the anniversary of the declaration of independence of the Confederate States, and on the twenty-second day of February, the anniversary of the birth of Washington, a salute of twenty-one guns shall be fired at meridian from vessels in commission and navy yards." (Art. 25)Washington's Birthday Observed
My comments:
I took this picture last year (2007) on my first trip to Mt. Vernon.
I think this memorial is full of orbs. Click to see it in large size. Seems like Lincoln may be having an orb party with all those lights floating all around. This is a very impressive monument.
Standing apart from the somewhat triumphal and Roman manner of most of Washington, the memorial takes the severe form of a Greek Doric temple. It is 'peripteral,' with 36 massive columns, each 37 feet (10 m) high, surrounding the cella of the building itself, which rises above the porticos. As an afterthought, the 36 columns required for the design were seen to represent the 36 U.S. states at the time of Lincoln's death, and their names were inscribed in the entablature above each column. The names of the 48 states of the Union when the memorial was completed are carved on the exterior attic walls, and a later plaque commemorates the admission of Alaska and Hawaii. Click on the link below and go down to memory lane, back to the sixties. For those of us that were lucky to have lived those times, it's so good to remember. For the younger generation, this can be sort of like a time travel. Have fun!!!!
A friend of my neice took this picture on August 16, 2007. The area had
been blocked off but they jumped into the spot to have this picture taken. What is behind is Indian Creek in other words just water. There is a face that appeared in between them where there is no place to stand. When you double click to enlarge the picture you will be amazed at the details of the apparition of what seems to be a young woman. They didn't see anything when the picture was taken with a digital camera. My niece was shocked when she closely looked at the picture. In addition, there are some unusual lights to the right side of the picture, on the body of my niece and a red haze on the body of her boyfriend.I stayed at a house owned by my nephew and his wife at Tavernier Key, Florida. It has a view towards a canal so close to the ocean that you can see it. This small town is so relaxing, very little traffic, nobody in a hurry, smiling people, gosh so different from the big city. For dinner my youngest sister, my first cousin and I decided to try some awesome Mexican food at Key Largo, north to Tavernier, Señor Frijoles. As you can see on the photograph on the extreme right, we got a table outside, ocean view and we watched the sunset while we dined drinking our Margarita. To the left is the view from the balcony of the second story of the house, and the center picture is a view from across the street. Most of the houses have a dock for a boat, so all you have to do is hop in and go fishing, snorkling or any water sport you enjoy.
Thank you. I don't get my stuff blogged very often, so it was nice to see. read more
